New and Emerging Breeds

The only breeds that may be shown in New/Emerging Breed classes are those for which specific NEB Guidance Notes have been agreed by the Council:

  • Belted (all Full or Guide Standard Self colours and White)
  • Ridgeback (any colours/markings)
  • Self Caramel
  • Tweed (Chocolate or Chocolate Agouti)

See Guidance Notes for Breeders, Exhibitors and Judges for these specific New and Emerging Varieties can be viewed here

In addition, the following cavies may be shown in New and Emerging Breed classes: variants of a Full or Guide Standard Nonself breed displaying a Full or Guide Standard Self, Agouti, Solid Agouti or Argente colour(s)/ticking(s) that is/are not specifically recognised in the above lists; such varieties include:

  • American Crested (Agouti, Solid Agouti, Argente)
  • Californian (White, Cream, Saffron, Golden or Red body colour, with Beige or Lilac points and pink eyes, or with Slate points and ruby eyes; also, White body colour with Blue points and dark eyes). Note: Blue in combination with yellow series body colours are not considered NEB due to the diluting effect that the blue gene has on yellow series colours (i.e. they would not conform to ESCC colours).
  • Satin and Crested Argente or Satin and Crested Solid Argente (Gold/Beige, Gold/Lilac, Gold/Slate, Lemon/Beige, Lemon/Lilac, Lemon/Slate, White/Beige, White/Lilac, White/Slate)
  • Dalmation (Guide Standard Argente or Solid Argente colours)
  • Roan (Guide Standard Argente or Solid Argente colours)
  • Blue variants of Silver Agouti
  • Blue Fox
  • Silver or Cinnamon Agouti Himalayans

Unrecognised Breeds Pending Assessment

All breeds not included in the lists above.

A new colour variant of a Self cavy, e.g. the Pink Eyed Blue.

A Nonself cavy (other than Solid Satin) containing a colour that as a Self would be regarded either as a ‘New and Emerging Breed’ or as an ‘Unrecognised Breed Pending Assessment’ (i.e. it does not have a Full Standard or a Guide Standard) will be treated as an ‘Unrecognised Breed Pending Assessment’,

A Nonself cavy displaying a combination of features that are likely to interact in an inappropriate or unpredictable way will be treated as an ‘Unrecognised Breed Pending Assessment’. Examples of such combinations are: Crested versions of rough or harsh coated Non-Self varieties such as Abyssinian, Rex, Teddy, Lunkarya or Swiss; combinations of Marked and/or Marked Pattern varieties, e.g. Tortoise & White Dalmation; Satin versions of Coated varieties other than Cresteds, e.g. Satin Abyssinian, Satin Rex, Satin Peruvian, Satin Sheltie.

A variant of a Full or Guide Standard Nonself breed displaying a combination of colours and/or patterns and/or coat features not specifically recognised in the above lists; such varieties include:

  • Crested or Satin Dutch
  • Crested or Satin Tortoise and white
  • Crested or Satin Dalmation
